Biography
Zuo Zhengyao (b. 1960 Hubei, China) entered the Chinese traditional painting of The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA) in 1980, completed his bachelor degree and served as a teacher of Central China Normal University in1985. Then, he worked at Guangdong museum of Art from 1996. And then he was back to GAFA, earning his MFA in 2009. Zuo now served as a professor and postgraduate student tutor of GAFA, curator of Art Museum of GAFA, vice director of Ceramic Art Committee of China Artists Association, vice chairman of Federation of Guangdong -Hong kong - Macao Greater Bay Area Artits, member of International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), UNESCO, member of Non-material Culture Protect Association, member of Guangdong Ceramic Art Judging Committee, chairman of Federation Asian Artists-China Committee from 12th to 23rd, judging panel of the 11th, 12th Chinese National Art Exhibition assessment and re-assessment，judging panel of the 3rd China Artwork Adward(the highest national art award), curator of United States Cal State Fullerton’s College of the Arts. He currently resides and works in Guangzhou and Los Angeles. Over the years, Zuo Zhengyao‘s work has appeared in high-school and college text-books around the world, including 1991, Shanghai People‘s Publishing House (SPPH) published Catalogs of Chinese Contemporary Art History (1985-1986) (written by Gao Minglu). In 1992, Hunan Arts Press published Chinese Modern Art History (written by Lv Peng and Yi Dan). In 2006, Peking University Press published A History of Art in 20th Century China (written by Lv Peng). In 2009, AD Press Co. Ltd published Trends in Hubei and Hunan Chinese Contemporary Art in Hubei &Hunan1985-2009 (written by Peng De), Harbin Institute of Technology Press published Catalogs of Image: Century Thoughts-Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition (written by Gao Minglu). In 2010, Xiling Seal Engraver‘s Society Publishing House published Nature of China -Contemporary Art Documenta (written by Wang Lin). In 2011,the MIT Press published Total Modernity and the Avant-Grarde in Twentieth-Century Chinese Art (English) (written by Gao Minglu). Zuo‘s works was awarded the Excellent Works of Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, Silver Prize of China Contemporary Ceramic Academic Invitational Exhibition, Excellent Works Prize of the 7th National Ceramic Art Competition, Golden Prize of Guangdong Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition, Academic Award of the 2nd Asian Biennial(Hong Kong) . And his works were collected by Ministry of Culture of the People‘s Republic of China, National Museum of China, Guangdong Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Xinjiang, Wuhan Art Museum, Tsinghua Art Museum, Linnan Museum of Fine Art, Guancheng Art Museum, Guyuan Museum of Art, Memorial Hall of Lingnan School of Painting, Chao Gallery, Zhengtian Museum, etc.
